Daily Eye: Something About Trees and Bark and Hiptopia

Buxom, Daily Eye, Lorac, NARS, Urban Decay 1comments

...okay, so I'm running out of names in early March and so I'm taking my best friend's tongue-in-cheek suggestion. Little did she know I'd actually use it.

This morning, wanting something simple, I used four shadow pencils by NARS and Urban Decay. I love shadow pencils because they're easy to apply and just as blendable as any other shadow.

Products used:

Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer
NARS Shadow Pencil in Hollywoodland and Goddess
Urban Decay Shadow Pencil in Sin and Juju

Daily Eye: Just Keep Swimming

Daily Eye, Kat Von D, Lorac, Manly, Sephora, Urban Decay 0 comments

Today was a rare treat for me: a whole weekend off. While I had things to do and places to go yesterday (mostly hockey, where we clinched home ice at the last minute by one point-- a miracle!) today I didn't have a single thing to do that would require me to leave the house. So, between loads of laundry, I did this:

Something that I'd never leave the house wearing, but it's fun to play like this once in a while. :)

Products used:

Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer in Light
Sephora Nano Liner in Pure White
Manly Palette 88, 6, 43
Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Deviant
Lorac Front of the Line PRO in Black

I've saved the best for last! This is my absolute favorite car, the Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4. Just look at this beautiful machine:

I was in a rush this morning, and didn't have time to give a proper tribute, but this is what I came up with.

Daily Eye: 1963 Opel Kadett

Colorevolution, Daily Eye, Lancome, Make Up For Ever, Stila, Too Faced, Urban Decay 1comments

Clearly, I like cars. This interest was actually spawned when my husband and I started watching Top Gear (the UK version). Up until then, I had no concern with the motoring world, and couldn't tell you the difference between a Ford and a Chevrolet (no matter how much the kids in my hometown debated over the two).

Now, there have been a lot of cars featured on Top Gear over the years, but this one deserves a special mention, and a day in my theme week.

The Top Gear guys traveled to Botswana for a special. For these international challenges, they're usually each given a sum of money to buy a car for the duration of their time in the country. Richard Hammond bought a 1963 Opel Kadett, promptly declared it "the happiest car in the world," and named it Oliver. The car performed incredibly through all of the challenges, and remained nearly unscathed... until they got to the river. Hammond then had it shipped back to the UK and restored.

My Opel eyes, simple and light:

Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden
Lancome Color Design Sensational Effects Eye Shadow in Ciel du Soir

Daily Eye: 2008 Mini Cooper S

Buxom, Daily Eye, Lorac, Make Up For Ever, Sephora, Smashbox, Stila, Urban Decay 0 comments

Clearly, I love small European cars. Today's is the Mini. If I had to pick a (realistic) option from my list of dream cars, this would be it.

To create the look, I started with a base of Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream mixed with Make Up For Ever Primer and a bit of Smashbox Artificial Light. Over that, for a richer blue, I layered Buxom Stay There Eyeshadow in Bulldog, stacked Sheepdog above that, and blended. Then I made the stripes with my Sephora Nano Liner.

Products used:

Lorac Behind the Scenes Primer
Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream #20
Smashbox Artificial Light in Diffuse
Make Up For Ever Primer #0
Buxom Stay There Eyeshadow in Bulldog and Sheepdog
Sephora Nano Eyeliner in Pure White
Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Deviant

Daily Eye: Fiat Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari

Daily Eye, Lancome, Lorac, Make Up For Ever, Manly, Stila 0 comments

I've loved Fiats for a while. I don't know if it's the amazing car chase in The Bourne Identity that got me, or the fact that I've had a red one painted on me... but that's another story. My favorite one, though, is this version:

So, for today's eye look, I decided to incorporate those stripes. May I present: my first double cut crease!

To create the cut crease, I first drew a line with my eyeliner in my crease. To help guide me, I half-closed my eyes and put three dots along the crease, then just connected the dots to make a line. After that, I used a Sephora smudge brush to smudge out the harsh line toward the eyebrow, and then applied the Lancome Ciel du Soir over that. Then, I filled in with yellows and whites, lined the eye, and added mascara.

Products used:

Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer
Lancome Color Design Sensational Effects Eye Shadow in Ciel du Soir
Manly Palette 2, 3, 5, 48
Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes #1L

Review: Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Liquid Foundation

Benefit, Review 2 comments

When I first heard about Benefit's new foundation, I thought it sounded fantastic. It's packed with benefits: SPF 25 PA+++, anti-aging ingredients, and hydration. What more could a girl ask for?

Well, nothing. If you have yellow undertones.

I tried the Ivory and Petal shades. Petal was as yellow as yellow could be, and I ruled that one out; Ivory, which I regrettably put all over my face and wore for part of the day, was yellow enough to leave a line of demarcation even after blending. This foundation isn't going to work if you've got pink undertones at all. Also, I found that it rubs off quite easily. All in all, I was so embarrassed to have this on my face that I scrubbed it off and reapplied different makeup a couple of hours after putting it on.

Pros:

  • Skincare benefits
  • Lightweight while providing coverage
Cons:
  • Only good for complexions with yellow undertones
  • Rubs off easily

Verdict: Might be worth a shot if you've got a golden undertone and not a lot of imperfections to cover. Otherwise, steer clear.
